The one with the scent I just can't pinpoint

So yesterday I showed you the lip and nail duo of Deborah Lippmann's Forsaken. I guess I hadn't read everything there was to know about this duo because until I got the box, I didn't realize the nail polish was scented. It's scented to match the perfume that goes with the collection. So when I put the nail polish on, after it was dry, I sniffed around on my nails, laughing at myself the whole time because I probly looked pretty silly.

The scent is soft. Kind of musky...with a hint of something I can't quite put my finger on. It's not overpowering in the slightest. Deborah said her goal was "subtle and sexy." And yep - she achieved that! So imagine my old, crazy brain forgetting about the scent almost as soon as I found it...

Fastforward to taking pictures of the lipstick and polish together. I thought it was funny to use my son's fake plastic vampire teeth. haha And got the brilliant idea to do the "shocked" look (you know the one, your mouth slight open, your hand up over to cover it?)
And when I started laughing, I inhaled this scent...and it kind of freaked me out because I just knew I didn't have perfume that smelled even remotely like the scent lingering in the air. I kept taking really deep breaths, and my husband was like "Are you ok? Are you having trouble breathing or something?" I was like "Nah, I dunno what it is, but I smell a perfume or something."

Yep. I'm so old I forgot the polish was scented. Every time my nails moved through the air, or I posed for a photo like below, I thought I was going crazy. My mind kept cycling through all the things that could be wrong with me when you start smelling strange things. Was one of my other senses going to disappear and my sense of smell was overcompensating? Was I finally going to get my dream of becoming a superhero - with a heightened sense of smell? What would my superhero name be with that superpower. I'd be like Gus on Psych...The Super Smeller.

Someone once told me when your brain is malfunctioning during a stroke, you can sometimes smell garbage. I was starting to wonder if when beauty bloggers stroke out, they smell pretty things instead.

But then when I sat down to look at the box yesterday when I started to write my post, I literally hit myself in the head with the box. THE POLISH IS SCENTED. I felt like such an idiot! So, yeah, of course, I had to share this with you guys. I just wish I was finally getting that superhero gig.

**DISCLAIMER**  I was not paid for this review by anyone. I either purchased these polishes myself or were given gifts as friends because I could not find the particular shade I wanted myself.  I am not a professional nail tech, nor do I want to be. I'm just someone who enjoys polishing my own nails :)

  1. First of all dayum I love this polish color! Love, Love, LOVE IT! And you know I'm not a huge Lippmann fan, Igor. I feel I will definitely have to have this one. 2nd of all if I ever were to become a Super Hero I'd want to be the Animal Savior. I don't really give a flip about humans I guess because as a super hero I'd want to save as many animals as possible lol! And last but not least I LOVE the vampire teefs!!!!

  3. Hah! Too funny! You know, I wore this polish the day I got it and I didn't know it was scented AND I didn't smell anything, but I wasn't looking for scent either...hmmm, once I get over this cold I will have to try it out again to see if I can smell it.

    1. ... And that's happened to me, too... With Color Club's The Lime Starts Here. It smells DELISH! But I kept forgetting that the polish was the source of the yummy smell. I even asked someone what body spray they were wearing :-/

  8. Oh my goodness, I bet that was driving you crazy. "What... what is that smell?!" I don't blame you for being freaked! DH and I love Psych, btw.

I think it's cool that this polish smells of something other than fruit (actually, I think it's cool when anything scented arrives on the scene and doesn't smell like fruit/candy/baked goods). Gorgeous vampy color, too, and highly appropriate use of vampire teeth. ;D

  9. I love this post. I really relate.

I am happy I found your blog, I can tell I am going to enjoy some good reading.

These photos are great. I am really beginning to get in the mood for Autumn. This year I being tempted by vampy shades like this, normally I am not.

This set is very intriguing. I would love to smell that mysterious fragrance.

I don't normally wear bright or bold lip color. I spend nearly all my makeup budget on polishes. Good for you for trying something new!

Oh, and the worst-case scenario thing? I'm already on it too! Looks like we have that covered.
